rescue crew
There is a massive amount of high-quality material that heads straight for the tip during local renovations. Instead of letting good pieces go to landfill, Felipe and our local mate Rosie have been intercepting building sites to dismantle and rescue items that still have plenty of life left in them.
By putting in some elbow grease, we have managed to secure upgrades to the house and garden without the footprint of buying new.

The Rescue List
Furniture: A complete outdoor table and seating for a party!
Landscaping & Fencing: Salvaged timber was used by Felipe to build the fences for the back veggie patch. We also rescued mature aloe plants and bromeliads to fill out the bed out front.
Energy: A steady supply of salvaged hardwood firewood for the colder months.
Upcycled Fire Pits
One of the best results of the salvage runs came from two dead washing machines. Felipe stripped them down, pulled out the stainless steel drums, and converted them into excellent backyard fire pits. The perforated drums look brilliant at night and allow for perfect airflow.
